My Summer as a NASA Intern

Week 9

This week, I spent most of my time working on my presentation! I was scheduled to present at a meeting with the NuSTAR group, which consists of a few dozen students and professors from Caltech, so I really wanted to do well! Because I did not do well presenting at my meeting last week, my mentor helped me plan out all of my talking points and better organize my slides, which was really helpful. Once I knew what I had to change, I redid my slides to focus on the NuSTAR data, added new plots and cleaned up the old ones, and wrote a better script for the presentation.

Because I put so much more effort into my presentation this time, it went really well! I was so proud to present my work comprehensively and in a way that actually made sense and to have that work praised by such accomplished scientists. The final presentation is posted in the presentations tab!

Besides my presentation, I also did some final wrap-up meetings with my CRESST supervisors. I did an exit interview, where I talked about how much I enjoyed being a part of the NASA team over the summer and how I thought the program could improve. I also got to reflect on all the events that I had participated in throughout the summer, which was fun to look back on!

I also had a follow-up meeting with a professor from the graduate school panel that I attended a few weeks ago. It went really well, and I got so much great advice about how to move forward in my career! I’ve never heard a scientist talk so openly about their life experiences, so it’s been so helpful to know what I’m getting into and how to best prepare for my future!
